Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets Among Teams Ready To Pounce on Donovan Mitchell Trade
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

After a frustrating season, the Brooklyn Nets are expected to go shopping for a star in the offseason. Among the players they’re targeting is All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell if he decides Cleveland isn’t place to be in for his career.

Mitchell first entered the NBA as the Denver Nugget’s 13th pick in the 2017 Draft and traded to the Utah Jazz shortly after. While most of the attention initially went to Ben Simmons that year, he would later gain steam by the end of the regular season with averages of 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest.

Even though Mitchell lost the Rookie of the Year race to Simmons back then, his rookie campaign established him as one of the NBA’s most exciting young stars back then. Unfortunately, the All-Star shooting guard was unable to lift Utah to contention after consistent playoff eliminations over the years.

As a result, Mitchell was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers as the Jazz started a rebuild. And while things started to go well for him there, the team’s recent exit at the hands of Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics may signify his time with the Cavs is coming to an end.

Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets Among Teams Projected To Trade for Cleveland Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell

Rumors of Mitchell wanting a different situation has placed teams across the league on alert. The Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are the top teams projected to make a move on the Cavs’ All-Star in the offseason, according to an article written by Anthony Puccio for Nets Daily.

“Yet after a disappointing playoff run, trade whispers are only getting louder about Mitchell’s long term prospects. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who has been all over the Spida Saga (trademark pending!), reported Wednesday on “Get Up” that the Lakers and Nets are among a number of teams with offers ready for the Cavaliers.

Windhorst has been calling the Nets a potential destination for the New York kid since December. And for whatever it’s worth, this comes moments before the Cavs deemed Mitchell (calf) out of a pivotal Game 5 against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals,” Puccio wrote.

As it stands, the Nets have an enticing collection of young players and draft picks to trade for Mitchell. If they can get this done, the Cleveland star will get his wish of playing the Big Apple.

It remains to be seen what will happen between the Cavaliers and Mitchell. In any case, fans should keep a close eye on what the Nets and Lakers are going to do to land him in the coming months.
